Evanston French Homes

A French house is actually a very broad term; however, most people refer to this style as a quintessential French farmhouse style that one might find in Provence or even on the outskirts of large cities like Paris or Rouen. A French house is often notable for its large open kitchen. A period French house might even contain its original hearth. These houses tend to be rectangular in shape and may contain one or two stories—sometimes even a third-as well as a cellar.

Depending on the era of their construction, these homes may be simple and rustic or have more ornate features such as decorative stonework. Rustic French homes may feature beams that adorn their low ceilings. Many French houses contain a dining room that is separate from the kitchen, living room, foyer, and small-sized bedrooms. Many French brought this style with them to America, especially the Midwest, when they immigrated here from the continent or from Canada.
